Swaminarayan Bhagwan paved a roadway through which our crude natures are transformed. Instead of killing a demon or enemy, Swaminarayan Bhagwan taught His devotees to think positively and foster the feeling of change within the person. If an evil person is simply killed or disregarded, their evil instincts will still persist. However, with Swaminarayan Bhagwan's technique, the demonic tendencies of the person are transformed and eradicated. (In Shikshapatri verse 201, Swaminarayan Bhagwan states that if someone abuses His saint without any fault, the saint should not retaliate, but instead think good of the person.) Joban Pagi, a vicious criminal who became a pious devotee through Swaminarayan Bhagwan's love, is a shining example of this concept.

In Gita 3/33, it is stated that even the knowledgeable person acts according to his nature. But in Vachanamrut Gadhada Middle 37, Swaminarayan Bhagwan shows that your crude nature can be changed. The technique is (1) have total faith in the master's words, (2) have supreme love for the master, and (3) when the master talks harshly to you to change you, accept that his words are for your benefit. The third part is difficult, but one must realize that the master is always a well-wisher. For example, when a person goes into surgery and the doctor hammers bones into place, we still know that the doctor is doing this for the good of the patient.
