Swaminarayan Bhagwan cannot be compared to anyone else. He is one, without an equal, and supreme. The Sanskrit word upamaa is close to "comparison" in English, thus, Swaminarayan Bhagwan cannot be given the upamaa of anyone else. For example, if a servant does a job as well as the king would have, it can be said that "the servant behaved like the king." However, it can never be said that "the king is like the servant."
In Vachanamrut Kariyani 10, Swaminarayan Bhagwan explains, "By the grace of God, those who are devotees of God may become like Brahma, Shiva, Shukji, or Narad; they may even become like Prakurti-Purush; or they may become like Brahma or Akshar. However, no one is capable of becoming like Shri Purushottam Narayan."
In Vachanamrut Loya 13, Swaminarayan Bhagwan explains, "Even a saint like Muktanand Swami can be considered to be like God because of his association with God. Without God, however, even Akshar cannot be called God, let alone anyone else....Only God is like God, no one can become like Him."
In Vachanamrut Gadhada Middle 67, Lord Swaminarayan explains, "Those devotees of God who become brahmasvaroopa still behave as God's servants and devote to Him...Devotees of God attain qualities similar to those of God, and yet, swami-sevaka-bhaava (the master-servant relationship) between them is maintained."
In Vachanamrut Gadhada Last 37, Swaminarayan Bhagwan explains, "Only God is like God; no one else can even compare to Him. Also, a devotee in the abode of God who has attained attributes similar to God also possesses a form similar to that of God. Nevertheless, that devotee is still a mukta, and God is, after all, Purushottam."
In Vachanamrut Gadhada Last 39, Swaminarayan Bhagwan explains, "Only God is like God. Many have attained qualities similar to His by worshipping Him, yet they certainly do not become like God...God is definitely one, and no one can become like Him."
Anaadi Mool Akshar Moorti Gunatitanand Swami is the eternal, original, perfect devotee of God. Swaminarayan Bhagwan had attested to this and it is recorded in several Swami Ni Vato. All brahmasvaroop saints are "like Gunatitanand Swami" or also great devotees of the one God, Swaminarayan Bhagwan.
