THE ILLUSION OF THE SENSES
June 23, 2004
Des Plaines Mandir

The jeeva (impure soul) thinks that by enjoying vishayas (objects of attraction to the senses), it will become stronger, but in fact, it becomes weaker. By tyaaga (renouncing sense indulgement) the jeeva becomes stronger. Though senses may bring temporary gratification, they take the aspirant away from the higher goal. It is not the niyama (disciplines) but the vyasana (negative habits) that prove to be the real restriction. By submitting to the senses, one's desires increase and time is wasted away from spirituality.
