Kakaji often cited Vachanamrut Gadhada Middle 7 and Gadhada Middle 63 for a devotee to gain instant strength.
In Vachanamrut Gadhada Middle 7, in response to Muktanand Swami's question, Lord Swaminarayan says, "If a person lacks vairaagya (detachment), but intensely serves a great saint, and obediently perserves in his observance of the injunctions of God, then God will look upon him with an eye of compassion, and feel, 'This poor fellow lacks vairaagya, and lust, anger, etc., are harassing him very much. So now, may all those vicious natures be eradicated.' As a result, they will be eardicated immediately."
In Vachanamrut Gadhada Middle 63, Lord Swaminarayan explains, "However, there is an even greater method than [to behave as the soul] to gain strength...For making the soul stronger, there is no method comparable to that of serving God and His devotee."
The question then is, what is the nature of this highest service? The highest service is of nirdoshbuddhi or seeing divinity in all. Second, service should be an offering to God, only to please Him, without a trace of egoism or material gain. (Vachanamrut Gadhada Middle 41: "There must be very few devotees like Ratanji and Miyaji who offer devotion to God solely for the purpose of pleasing God, without any cravings for praise.")
