|SHIRDI SAI BABA|
|February 20, 2005 |
Sai Baba was born around 1838 in a Brahmin family in today's Maharashtra. He was cared for by Gopal Rao Deshmukh, also called Vankusa, who was a devotee of Lord Venkateshwar (popularly known as Balaji, an image of Lord Vishnu in Trumala Hills, Andhra Pradesh, India). From 1858, Sai Baba lived in Shirdi (in Maharashtra) till he passed away in 1918. In Shirdi, Sai Baba lived a simple life in a dilapidated mosque - but many were touched by his saintliness.
A devotee once asked Sai Baba to come to his home. Sai Baba replied he would do so after three days. On that day, after waiting for a long time for Sai Baba to arrive, the devotee finally decided to eat on his own. Later, when the devotee visited Shirdi again, he asked Sai Baba why he had not come. Sai Baba replied, "I had come in the form of a fly, but instead of inviting me to eat, you had blown me away with your hands."
